How to Use Your Velsilk Heatless Curler
Soft, bouncy curls while you sleep — zero heat, zero damage. Here's how to get your best results from night one.
The 3-step method
- Start with damp hair. Not soaking wet — towel-dried until it's just damp. Slightly damp hair sets the best curl and dries fully overnight. A little leave-in or light mousse helps the hold.
- Wrap and clip. Split your hair into sections. Take one section and wrap it around the silk rod, working from the ends up toward your scalp, then secure with the clip. Repeat around your head. Smaller sections = tighter, longer-lasting curls.
- Sleep, then unwrap. The rods are soft enough to sleep in comfortably. In the morning, gently unwrap each section, finger-comb through, and mist with a little hairspray to lock it in.
Tips for the best curls
- Fine or thin hair: use slightly damp hair and smaller sections — this gives the longest hold.
- Thick or long hair: use smaller sections and make sure each is fully dry before unwrapping. If it's still damp in the morning, give it a few extra minutes with a cool blow-dry.
- Looser waves: use bigger sections and start wrapping lower down.
- Longer hold: a light hairspray before wrapping and again after unwrapping makes curls last all day.
- Don't over-brush after unwrapping — finger-combing keeps the curls defined; a brush loosens them into soft waves (also pretty!).
How long does it take?
About 2–3 minutes to wrap before bed. The curls set overnight while you sleep — no time spent styling in the morning, and no hot tools to wait on.
FAQ
- Can I use it on dry hair?
- It works best on damp hair — that's what lets the curl set. On fully dry hair the curl won't hold as well. Lightly misting dry hair with water is a good shortcut.
- How long do the curls last?
- All day for most hair types, and often into the next day. A light hairspray extends the hold.
- Is it comfortable to sleep in?
- Yes — the rods are soft and flexible, not hard rollers. Most people forget they're wearing them.
- Does it really cause no damage?
- Correct — there's no heat involved at all, so no heat damage, breakage, or frizz the way hot tools cause.
- What hair types does it work on?
- All of them — straight, wavy, fine, thick, short, and long. Adjust your section size to control how tight the curl is.
